Order Now: Yundi’s ‘Chopin Preludes’ from Mercury Classics

Celebrated for his “wondrous colorings of many Chopin recitals,” (China Daily) Yundi’s newest recording from Mercury Classics features the complete Chopin preludes.

The release comes on the heels of his acclaimed tour of Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto with the National Youth Orchestra of the USA and Charles Dutoit, as well as his Hollywood Bowl debut on August 6, which garnered praise from the Los Angeles Times: “He was at home with the calm beauty of the slow movement. He gave Beethoven’s trills a wonderfully smooth, Zen-like ringing quality.”

Yundi gives “show-stopping performance” of Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto with National Youth Orchestra of the USA

In his highly anticipated return to Carnegie Hall, Yundi, under the baton of Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit, performed his signature account of Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. “Yundi’s playing was astonishing,” raved the Financial Times, praising the pianist’s “dapper energy and fleet articulation.”

“The Chongqing-born Yundi was the clear star of the show,” wrote New York Classical Review, celebrating Yundi’s triumphant return to Carnegie Hall with “a show-stopping performance…Yundi played with apt showy finesse and a wonderful flair for the dynamic and the minutiae, as in the unaccompanied, upper voicings at the end of the first movement and the lonely notes dotted through the second.”

From New York, Yundi travels to China with the NYO-USA and Charles Dutoit performing the “Emperor” Concerto on a program that includes Tan Dun’s new work Passacaglia: Secret of Wind and Birds and Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. Yundi is the 2015 guest soloist with the NYO-USA, a position held in previous years by world-renowned violinists Gil Shaham and Joshua Bell.
