Spring world tour takes Yundi to Europe, Russia, Middle East



With 2013 in full swing, Chinese pianist Yundi looks ahead to a landmark 15-city world tour, performing at leading venues across Europe, Russia, and the Middle East from March 18 to May 14. While on tour this spring, Yundi will perform a musical program that showcases the music of his latest album for Deutsche Grammophon, a collection of Beethoven's most Romantic sonatas slated for European and international release beginning March 22. Yundi's musical program will also include signature interpretations of works by Chopin. 

The Chinese pianist kicks off his tour in the German town of Göppingen (March 18) before making stops in Frankfurt (March 22), Munich (April 14), Paris (April 15), London (April 18), Liverpool (April 19), Moscow (April 22), Klavier Festival Ruhr (April 24), Strasbourg (April 28), Mulheim (May 5), Palermo (May 7), Ravello (May 11), and Berlin (May 14). This year's spring performances also see Yundi's debut at the Abu Dhabi Festival (March 24) and his return to the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig (May 3).

Worldwide tour continues with recitals across China

Beginning November 24, Yundi gives recitals across China, with a musical program that features the music of his latest Deutsche Grammophon album – a collection of Beethoven piano sonatas – and select Nocturnes by Chopin. Yundi’s Chinese recital tour begins at the Changzhou Grand Theatre (November 24), before making stops at Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (December 1), the Shanghai Grand Theatre (December 8), the Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre (December 9), and finally, the Guangzhou Opera House (December 15).

Yundi’s new Deutsche Grammophon album includes Beethoven’s most Romantic piano sonatas: the “Appassionata,” “Moonlight," and “Pathétique.” The disc is currently available in Asia and will be released worldwide next spring.

Yundi joins launch of "Play me, I'm yours" in Hangzhou
Last week Yundi took part in the launch ceremony of the “Play me, I’m yours” piano cultural initiative in Hangzhou, China. Reaching over two million people worldwide – the artwork, created by Luke Jerram, has seen more than 700 pianos installed in 30 cities across the globe, from New York to Sydney, bearing the simple instruction "Play Me, I’m Yours."

Placed throughout the city in public spaces, the pianos are available for any member of the public to play and enjoy. Who plays them and how long they remain is up to each community.

Asia tour showcases Beethoven sonatas and Tchaikovsky Concerto

Next week Chinese pianist Yundi heads out on tour, bringing the repertoire of his latest Beethoven sonatas album and Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto to concert halls across Asia. For his recitals in Kuala Lumpur (October 23), Taipei (October 25), and Seoul (October 31), Yundi will play Beethoven’s most Romantic sonatas: the “Appassionata,” “Moonlight," and “Pathétique.” These three sonatas are included on Yundi's newest Deutsche Grammophon album, now available in Asia and available worldwide next spring.

In Korea, Yundi will be the special guest soloist of the Korean Symphony Orchestra, performing Tchaikovsky’s magnificent First Piano Concerto under the baton of Hee-jun Choi. Yundi’s concerts with the ensemble will also include a the orchestral version of Chopin’s splendid Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante. You can hear Yundi and the Korean Symphony Orchestra perform in Busan (October 29) and Seoul (October 31).

Yundi Takes Beethoven Sonatas on Asia Recital Tour

Following his season-opening concerts with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra earlier this month, Yundi embarks on an extensive Asian recital tour that takes the Chinese pianist to Malaysia, Taiwan, and Korea. For all of his recitals, Yundi will perform Beethoven’s most Romantic sonatas, the “Apassionata,” “Moonlight," and “Pathétique.” These three sonatas are featured on Yundi's newest Deutsche Grammophon album, released in Asia beginning September 5 and available worldwide next spring.
