Yundi to present Chinese Folks Songs and Chopin works in upcoming European recital tour
Yundi embarks on a ten-city European recital tour at the end of February, following the international release of his newest EMI Classics recording project, The Red Piano. Inspired by Frédéric Chopin's affinity to his musical roots, Yundi presents a program that features the music of his native China. Alongside Chopin's Nocturnes, Andante spianato et grande polonaise brilliant, and Second Sonata, Yundi will also offer Chinese songs selected from The Red Piano. A celebrated advocate of the music of his homeland, Yundi will perform "Pi Huang" (Peking Opera) by Zhang Zhao as well as arrangements of traditional Chinese folk songs such as Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon, In that Place Wholly Faraway and Sunflowers.

The Red Piano to be released February 22, 2012
February 22, 2012 sees the international release of Yundi’s new recording project for EMI Classics, The Red Piano. Yundi’s forthcoming album celebrates his musical heritage with the recording of the Yellow River Concerto, based on music by Xian Xinghai and arranged by musicians Yin Chengzong, Chu Wanghua , Sheng Lihong and Liu Zhuang. The Red Piano also includes Five Yunnan Folk Songs as well as arrangements of other Chinese melodies. Check back for more details as the launch date of the album approaches.

Yundi tours Europe in February and March:

Yundi returns to Europe for an 10-city tour of Europe’s cultural capitals, beginning with a recital in Torino on February 26. Yundi makes further Italian stops in Genoa on February 27, Rovereto on March 1, and Bologna on March 5. Yundi then plays in Eindhoven on March 8 before heading to France for two recitals, on March 10 in Bordeaux and March 12 in Paris’ famed Salle Pleyel. Yundi wraps up his tour with performances in Munich on March 13, Belgrade on March 15, and his debut in the Gewandhaus in Leipzig on March 17.

Yundi tours Europe playing selections from his recent EMI Classics album, “Live in Beijing”:

Yundi embarks on a five-day, five-country tour of Europe on August 28, beginning with his premiere performance in Norway as part of the Helsinki Festival at the Sibelius Academy. Repertoire for this all-Chopin concert, as well as the following four concerts, includes five of Chopin’s Nocturnes, the Andante spianto et grande polonaise brillante Op. 22, Four Mazurkas Op. 33, the Second Piano Sonata, and the Polonaise "Héroïque" Op. 53.  Following his stop in Helsinki, Yundi heads to Berlin for a recital at the Berlin Konzerthaus on August 29, then to Copenhagen for an evening at Tivoli Concert Hall as part of the Tivoli Festival on August 30.  Yundi wraps up the tour with a stop in Edinburgh on September 3 at Queen’s Hall for a concert as part of the Edinburgh International Festival, and then finishes in Bucharest for a performance at Romanian Athenaeum Hall on September 5 for the Enescu Festival.
